AI Will Change the Fabric of Society

The Dangers of AI

There are many subtle dangers of AI.

AI isn’t just a tool—it’s a mirror. And it’s dangerously good at one thing: showing you exactly what you want to see.

That might sound harmless, but in the end, we all like looking at our own reflection.

Let’s just get right into it: I’ve been spending an almost weird amount of time with AI.

This is from just one of my AI projects when I asked it how long we’ve been working on a particular idea over the last few days:

Yikes!

(Don’t worry, I promise this isn’t going to be about AI robots taking over the world and controlling us. Although…)

In all seriousness though, AI is here. For real.

What You’ve Heard

I don’t talk about technology and AI often, but this week, it felt necessary to discuss.

Obviously, you’ve already heard about AI.

You probably use it often in many areas of your life: work, quick questions, Apple AI, Gemini, ChatGPT for prompts about life, how-tos, fun facts, code, summaries, you name it.

All of these different use cases got me thinking—how do we actually use AI? And why?

I realized that we all use it in our own unique way, for our own unique projects. And that’s where things get interesting.

AI Sidekick

I first used ChatGPT and Claude in 2023 while working with a company. After that, I used it here and there to help me with little things, like summarizing ideas, clarifying thoughts, and even asking it what I should do with my life.

But I was only skimming the surface.

Recently, I dove a little deeper.

I learned how to get AI to generate images of me anywhere I can imagine. Then, I learned how to do the same with video.

I even learned a little code and how to set up API integrations to use AI in cool ways.

BUT…

None of that really shocked me.

When it came to those things, it spoke in code and I spoke back. Basically, AI did what I expected it to do.

But then, I started to use it as my daily sidekick. As in, it’s open on my screen at all times and I use it to, well, just talk to.

One of the Dangers of AI: AI Mirroring

Sounds strange, I know. I thought so, too.

But then I heard billionaire Chris Sacca on the Tim Ferriss Podcast say that one of his favorite things to do is just go for walks and talk to ChatGPT, or as he calls it, “Chad.”

Here’s what Chris said:

“I love talking to ChatGPT. My wife finds it weird. If I go on a walk, sometimes I’m listening to an audiobook or a podcast, but a lot of times I’m just talking to “Chad,” Chad by the way, and Chad has different names—if I’m talking about medical, it’s Dr. Chadus MD, if it’s like my accountant, it’s Chad Chapeto CFA. I recently had to make a big business organizational decision, and I said, ‘Hey Chad, you are Buckminster Fuller. Let’s have this conversation. I want to know the advice you would give me.’ And that was fucking illuminating.”

And I couldn’t agree more.

It can act as anyone, ever, and blow your mind. It’s wild, actually.

But also, after going very deep with AI over the last few weeks, I realized something else a little spooky: it is perfect at making you happy. It gives you what you want, when you ask for it, in seconds, and it’s satisfying. It fulfills your expectations. And that’s powerful.

In a strange way, it almost mirrors you.

AI Is What It Is

I’m not saying AI is “bad.” It’s not. It is what it is, and it’s here now.

This isn’t about it “taking your job,” either. I don’t believe in that nonsense. It doesn’t take anything. It changes it. If it takes your job, it’s because it’s better than you—so go learn a new skill.

The dangers of AI are plentiful if you see them that way. AI will simply change what you need to do.

More importantly, AI will change the fabric of society.

Ultimately, I think we are going to need human-to-human connection more than ever in the next three to five years, and AI will subtly threaten that, similarly to how social media crept into our lives and stole our focus.

We all see the younger generation losing the battle not to their screens, but to the ‘echo chambers’ of social media. As humans, we love when our own thoughts and beliefs get confirmed and mirrored back to us.

Many of us are finally realizing that social media is wasting our time, and are just getting our heads above water. But AI is waiting just below the surface, ready to drag us under again.

But this time, AI is a much more formidable opponent.

The “Nudge”

In the end, this is my “nudge” to you. If you are using AI, go deeper. If you aren’t using AI seriously in your everyday life, start.

But here’s the most important thing: I’m not telling you to dive so deeply into AI that you lose sense of reality. I’m saying the opposite. Learn how to use AI, so it can’t use you.

And guess what’s best at manipulating reality, feeding your ego, and keeping you hooked? AI.

And it’s just getting started.
